consulting firm, Cintabali Consults International, in collaboration with Sarason Resources Limited, have launched a new book entitled: ‘Destroy Boredom: Create Happiness’, a practical guide to help tackle the causes of poor performances.

The book is designed to tackle boredom which, according to the author, is a major cause of poor performance.

According to the Founder, CCI and the author of the book, Mrs. Balaraba John, to perform better, one must be happy always and if one is not happy, the person is bored, and which is the root of it all.

She explained that the book was a practical guide for students to be productive, stressing that happiness was a choice and to perform better, individuals must choose to be happy.

Mrs. Balaraba said, “Education doesn’t guarantee happiness, but happiness guarantees good education. You may acquire a new thing and be happy for a moment, but it won’t last forever.

“This book is like a Bible for students, it is holy-spirit inspired. This is a practical book; it is a day to day stuff compiled together.

“I tell students to make life out of everything they come across. If you are expecting the next person to make life for you, it may not be possible. Happiness is a choice, train yourself to be happy. Instead of the other party influencing your joy, influence theirs,” she advised.

Mrs. Balaraba emphasized that her life experience and also the testimony of a young boy, who claimed boredom caused his under-performance, inspired her writing of the book.

She added, “This book is like a personal testimony of the solutions I found to tackle boredom in my life. Initially, it started from my experience. I have always been bored and I thought acquiring education was going to stop boredom.

“Also, there was this particular session I had with students about nine years concerning their under -performance in school. I was surprised that one of them told me that the reason for their under -performance was because they were bored,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the book reviewer, who is also the Chief Executive officer, Scaffoldings School and Founder of Rapha Counselling Concept, Mrs. Rosemary Ogedengbe, expressed satisfaction with the book, especially with its timely arrival.

“I want to say a big congratulations to Mrs. Balaraba John for this great development. Considering the level of physical, social and emotional stress in the country, which is increasing by the day, the book is very much germane as it is coming at the right time,” she said.

Reviewing the book, she described boredom as lack of concentration, which could limit productivity.

“The book says boredom is when you experience lack of motivation, enthusiasm.  Here is a lot that is going on that can easily dull people and make them loose concentration,” she said.

The reviewer stressed the need to take up new intellectual challenges to avoid the effect of the problem caused by the repetition of same subjects.

The representative of the publisher, Sarason Resources Limited, Mr. Jerry Obanyero, expressed profound joy in being part of the solution to a public problem affecting the country, especially students.

He also maintained that an unhappy child would not be able to perform.

“As the Chairman planning committee, I would like to celebrate the solution to one of the problems affecting our country, Nigeria. According to statistics, 80 to 90% are bored and it causes depression, anger, drug addiction, lack of academic performance and lack of productivity. We are here to celebrate that there is a secret to arrest our boredom. Boredom has no respect for anyone; if you are not happy, you can’t perform well. Happiness is very important. Children are not performing effectively in their school because they are not
happy.

“If the child is unhappy about the school, class or the teacher, they won’t perform well.”
