ABIA State Police Command has reacted officially to the attack on Uzuakoli Police Station in Bende Council Area, saying the gunmen who set the station ablaze, used dynamite and rocket launchers.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, said this frustrated efforts at repelling them by the policemen guarding the station.

According to him, the gunmen attacked the station a few minutes before 3am on Monday.

He said they also freed detainees at the station but maintained that no life or ammunition was lost.

Ogbonna, however, said the gunmen destroyed the building, patrol vans, exhibit vehicles and cars parked at the station.

“The gunmen attacked the station a few minutes before 3 am Monday. Policemen on duty attempted to repel the attack but the use of high calibre weapons by the gunmen thwarted their efforts,” he said.

He said investigation was ongoing on the matter, urging the public not to hesitate to volunteer useful information that would lead to the arrest of the gunmen.
