Tobi Amusan has withdrawn from racing in Cameroon’s 23rd Senior Athletics Championship owing to illness.

According to sources, an ailment described as ‘Sore throat’ prevented the World 100m hurdles Champion from becoming the third Nigerian high hurdler to win the 100m hurdles three times at the African Athletics Championships.

Amusan, who won the Women’s 100m Hurdles Final at the National Trials in Benin City, Edo State, aims to maintain her form when she represents Nigeria in the 100m Hurdles Heats.

Remember how Amusan surprised Benin fans with her Hurdling prowess, successfully defending her national title and preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Meanwhile, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi earned Team Nigeria’s first gold medal at the African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon, with a championship record of 21.20m.

He currently has three African Championship titles, having won in Asaba and Mauritius, and is tied for the most GOLD medals by a male Shot Putter in the Championships’ history. Team Nigeria Athletics is in Douala, Cameroon, with 40 athletes (20 male and 20 female) scheduled to compete in 20 events.

Nigeria last won the championships in 2012, in Porto-Novo, Benin. Egypt hosted the 1982 tournament, which featured the fewest competitors (297 from 18 countries), and Kenya won.
