Following a call by former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) that youths should be allowed to take over governance in Nigeria, a House of Representatives aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Mr. Bolarinwa Oluwole, has applauded the ex-President for the
statement.
Babangida had, last week, said that the old generation had overstayed in the corridors of power and should pave the way for the younger ones, to steer the ship of the state aright.
The former president was quoted to have said that he and other like-minds proposed, as far back as 1989, the possibility of handing over the country’s leadership to younger people who had the passion and zeal to propel it on the path of development and growth, but that the older generation was recalcitrant then.
Oluwole, who wants to represent Remo Federal Constituency, made his position known during an interview with our correspondent in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, at the weekend.
He said, “General Babangida has said it all; that the youths deserve to be given the chance to aspire to leadership positions, having himself seen the potential that the Nigerian youths possess.
“We cannot say a country will develop without including the youth in the political affairs. It is important to engage youth in the political business of the country.”
Oluwole, however, called on the states’ Houses of Assembly to vote yes to the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill that will give young people the opportunity to contribute to nation-building.
