Two artisans, Asimiyu Afeez, aged 30 and Jelili Adisa, 32, have been arrested for attempting to steal goats in their neighbourhood.
Afeez said he is a mechanic while Adisa claimed he is a rewirer.
The duo were said to have abandoned their workshops and broken into some houses at Ifesowapo community, Owode, Ilesa road, Osogbo, with the intention of stealing.
They allegedly stole a phone worth N65,000 belonging to a female resident and also attempted to cart away some goats in the community.
Police dragged the suspects before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for a three-count-charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The charge read, “That you Asimiyu Afeez and Jelili Adisa on the 13th day of July, 2023 at about 5:40pm at Ifesowapo community Owode, llesa road, Osogbo in the Osogbo magisterial district did conspire between yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of Criminal code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
“You did attempt to steal goats at Owode llesa road, Osogbo and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 509 of Criminal code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
“That you Jelili Adisa on the 8th day of July 2023 at about 10: 30 am at Ita-Olokan area, Osogbo in the Osogbo magisterial district did steal one POP 7 Techno phone valued N65,000, property of one Aileru Lateefat and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 390 (9) of Criminal code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”
They pleaded not guilty to the allegations. Their counsel, Najite Okobe, urged the court to grant the defendants bail.
Police prosecutor, Rasaq Olayiwola, did not object the bail application.
Magistrate M. A. Olatunji granted the duo bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety each in the same amount. The sureties are to be relations of the accused persons.
