Armed men kill three in Nasarawa, Imo communities

Some unidentified gunmen were reported to have killed two herdsmen in Ashige, Lafia East Development Area of Nasarawa State, and one person in Amakpurudere-Izombe in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State with a police officer also shot in a community in Imo.

The service rifle of the shot police officer was said to have been taken away by the hoodlums.

The police officer who was attacked was reportedly attached to an oil company in the community.

Following the incident that occured in the Imo community, there had been tension as security operatives moved round to track down the culprits.

“The community is hot as we speak. Indigenes are running from the community to avoid a repeat of what happened after youths and military men clashed and houses were burnt.

“A man was killed on a bush path while a policeman in an oil company was attacked after he had issue with another person. His service riffle was snatched.”

The Imo State Police Command indicated that investigation was ongoing on the matter.

At Ashige community where the two herdsmen were killed, it was learnt that the killer men struck at exactly 8pm on Friday.

The bodies of the herdsmen, who were said to have been inflicted with several machete cuts on their faces, were recovered on a farm.

“We do not know what exactly led to the death of the herders. We just woke up today (Saturday) and saw their dead bodies. We only saw some police officers who came to evacuate their bodies,” a villager said.

One of the kinsmen of the diseased, Seidu Adamu-Muhammed, said that the incident occured on Friday night.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adesina Soyemi, was said to have ordered his men to embark on a thorough investigation in a bid to bring the perpetrators to book.
