The All Progressives Congress has been declared the winner of Saturday’s bye-election in Akoko North-East/Akoko North-West Federal Constituency of Ondo State.
According to the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday night at the collation centre held at Victory College, Ikare Akoko, the APC candidate, Ife Ehindero, scored 35,504 votes, while the People’s Democratic Party candidate, Mr. Olalekan Bada, polled 15,328.
The INEC ‘s Returning Officer, Johnson Fasinmirin of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, declared the result of the poll.
He announced that the total valid votes were 51,341, and the total rejected votes were 555, while the total votes cast were 51,896.
He said, “I, Fasinmirin Johnson, am hereby satisfied that I am the Returning Officer for the 2024 Akoko North East and Akoko North West Federal Constituency by-election held on February 3, 2024.
“The election was contested, and Ehindero Ifeoluwa Babajide of APC polled 35,504 while Bada Olalekan Oladapo scored 15,328 votes.
“That Ehindero Ifeoluwa Babajide of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has congratulated Ehindero on the victory in the just concluded bye-election.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor lauded the tenacity of the winner hailing him for running an impressive campaign ahead of the election.
The governor said: “I congratulate you and the people of the Federal Constituency on this well-deserved victory. This is a testament to the trust that your people repose in you to represent them in the National Assembly.
“Your resounding victory also comes with a huge expectation from the people who have seen in you the capacity to meet and surpass the laudable achievements of your predecessor, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as their representative.
“This victory is also an endorsement of our great party, the APC, by the people of the State, and I want to especially thank them for their support for the party and our government.”
