APC sweeps Lagos, Ogun LG polls amidst voters’ apathy

The All Progressives Congress looks set to continue its dominance of the politics of both Lagos and Ogun states following the outcome of the local government elections which were held on Saturday.

As at the time of filing this report, results released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) reveal that the ruling party won all 20 local government areas and local councils.

The LG areas and councils in Lagos won by the APC include Bariga, Onigbongbo, Iru-Victoria Island, Ojokoro, Ifako-Ijaiye, Mosan-Okunola, Amuwo-Odofin, Isolo, Agege, Oto-Awori, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Agboyi-Ketu, Alimosho, Ojo, Ikeja, Mushin and Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye, Iba, Coker-Aguda and Itire-Ikate.

It was the same story in Ogun state as the APC also swept all 20 chairmanship seats announced on Sunday.

The Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission Babatunde Osibodu announced the result at the commission’s head office in Abeokuta.
Osibodu, had earlier on Sunday morning announced results of 17 councils while the remaining three results and winners were announced around 2:30pm.
Osibodu added that the total number of votes cast in the chairmanship elections in the 20 local government areas in the state was 396, 641.

“I want to say that APC won all the chairmanship seats in the 20 local government areas in the state, ” he said.

The chairman of the commission said that results of the elections into all the 236 councillorship positions in the state would be released as soon as they were ready.

He also appreciated the law enforcement agencies for the role played in the success of the elections, adding that those who won should be magnanimous in victory.

The exercise in both states which was largely marred with voter apathy was conducted in 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas in Lagos State as well as 20 councils of Ogun State. NAN
