The All Progressives Congress shunned the local government election conducted across 105 wards in Bayelsa State on Saturday by the state independent electoral commission.
It was gathered that the poll was also marred by irregularities in Sagbama as some hoodlums hijacked electoral materials meant for wards six, seven, 11, 13 and 14 in the area
While there was also voter apathy, voting materials and personnel of the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission were said to have arrived late in Yenagoa, Sagbama, Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Nembe, Brass, and Southern Ijaw council areas.
But in his reaction, Governor Douye Diri described the poll as peaceful after casting his vote along with his wife, Gloria, at their Kalamaoweiwari Unit Four, Ward Six, in Sampou community, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
Speaking with journalists, Diri lauded the BYSIEC for the proper handling of the council poll and expressed optimism that his party, the People’s Democratic Party, would win the election.
