The Osun State chapters of the All Progressives Congress and People’s Democratic Party have have exchanged words over alleged sponsoring of #EndBadGovernance Protest in the country.
The APC accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of aiding, abetting and sponsoring of protests in his statutory jurisdiction against the central government led by President Bola Tinubu when some governors have spoken against such protests in the overall interest of the corporate existence of the nation.
Making the allegation, Osun State chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, on Thursday, said, “It was unthinkable that Governor Adeleke could be openly romancing the protest agitators in order to castigate and embarrass the administration of President Tinubu unlike other state governors who have openly distanced themselves from it.
“While other state governors have clearly discouraged protesters from embarking on the planned action because it is capable of leading to breach of security, Governor Adeleke in his fake populist assumption is egging them on, and reportedly providing logistics for them.
“It is on record that Governor Adeleke has even given a public holiday to both state-owned primary and secondary schools in the state to enable them partake fully in the needless and ill-motivated planned protests in order to get at the Tinubu administration.
“What Governor Adeleke and his cohorts fail to understand is that whatever affects the part will also not spare the whole which is an unwritten law of nature.
“It was strange that Governor Adeleke has the audacity to approve of the agitation for the strike which is a threat to the head of a government of which he is a component head at the state level.”
Reacting in a statement, Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi warned the opposition party to observe decorum in its desperate attempt at playing politics when matters of public safety and security of life and property are being discussed, noting that, such sensitive matters are always beyond public asset thieves and treasury looters cramped in Osun Apc.
The ruling party lambasted APC for “its shameless effrontery in asking the state Governor to clamp down on the innocent people of Osun and members of the organised civil societies, instead of civilized approach of His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.”
Bisi wondered, saying, “How APC elements ever found their way into administering a civilized society like Osun when all they expected the Governor of the state to do at a time like this was a wicked show of force against peoples agitation, even in a Constitutional democracy.
“Recall, the state Governor, Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke had commissioned engagement of several segments of the society, including youth organisations, CSOs and student bodies in a dialogue session aimed at maintaining and sustenance of peace in Osun, over the planned national protest. This is what Apc labelled as fraternity with the potential protesters, in their warped thinking, to ridicule President Tinubu’s Federal Goverment.
“We understand the fact that Osun Apc chairman, Tajudeen Lawal and his lifeless advisers are too idle to be wise, but it is essential that their mental pluggings are not sent on sabbatical while making public comments on sensitive matters of wellbeing and security especially.
“Nigerians are not animals and the nation is not premised solely on the jungle system of force as Apc is used to. A responsible government will not sit back and refuse to engage its people for constructive deliberations when confronted with valid agitations. It is the global best standard in crisis management and not the APC option of ‘Kill and Go.”
