A former deputy governor of Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has said that the All Progressives Congress cannot win the 2019 general elections because it has failed to fulfill the promises it made to Nigerians in 2015.
Speaking exclusively with our correspondent, she said that Nigerians had turned their back on the ruling APC because it had not performed.
“They have not fulfilled the promises they made to the nation. They are a great disappointment. Instead of hope and change they promised, what they gave to Nigerians are insecurity, fear, poverty. So, I don’t know how they will win the next election,” Bucknor- Akerele said.
The former Lagos deputy governor also advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to seek re- election next year, saying his popularity rating had gone down to zero.
On the killing perpetrated by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Benue and Taraba states, she wondered why the herdsmen should be carrying sophisticated weapons like A.K 47, adding that all those found carrying arms illegally should be arrested and prosecuted.
Bucknor-Akerele condemned President Buhari’s handling of the issue of the Fulani herdsmen, saying the violence they had been unleashing might lead to reprisal attacks and eventually, a civil war.
“These herdsmen should be rounded up and put in jail,” she said.
The former Lagos deputy governor said insecurity had pervaded the country, adding that the way President Buhari had been handling the security issue showed that he had disappointed the nation.
“Insecurity is prevalent in the country and it is getting worse by the day. My fear is that if we are not careful, we are in danger of becoming a failed state like Somalia with various gangs controlling various sections of the country,” Bucknor-Akerele warned.
