Men of the Nigeria Police have prevented another man, Mr. Gabriel Okonjo, 65, from committing suicide after he attempted jumping into the Lagos lagoon on Third mainland bridge, Sunday, March 26, 2017.

The old man, who allegedly left his house around Ibafo, Ogun State on Sunday morning, was seen and hindered by some motorists and policemen.

According to one of his family members, Okonjo was recently discharged from the Psychiatric hospital, Yaba, Lagos, where he was diagnosed with mental disorder.

If found guilty of attempted suicide, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said he might be sentenced to 6 months or more.

But the CP added that the case of Mr. Okonjo might not be taken to court due to his ailment.

“The old man has been sent back to the psychiatric hospital for proper treatment while other attempted suicide cases are being investigated,” he said.
