MEMBER representing Gwaram Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, Hon. Yuguda Kila, is dead.

The lawmaker was said to have died at the National Hospital, after a brief illness, at the age of 70.

Kila was admitted at the hospital about two weeks ago for acute malaria, which later degenerated into acute shortage of oxygen in his blood, it was learnt.

He did not however test positive for COVID-19 at any point, according to his colleagues.

Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Customs and Excise, Hon. Leke Abejide, had told other colleagues and officials of the Nigeria Customs Service that he was indisposed, when the CG of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retd), appeared before the committee to defend his budget.

He urged them to pray for his quick recovery.

Kila was the Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise.

The Customs CG had offered prayers for Kila’s quick recovery before the news of his death filtered in, forcing the committee to adjourn sitting.

“The man was admitted last two weeks for just severe malaria. It later degenerated into acute shortage of oxygen in his blood stream. He tested negative to COVID-19 about three times and till he gave up (the ghost) this afternoon, he was confirmed not COVID-19 infected,” House Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, said.

“Myself and the Speaker are still at the National Hospital. We have secured release of his remains and completed arrangements for an Air Force aircraft to convey his body to Kano for Islamic funeral,” he told journalists.
