…Gang attacks DPO, rapes girls
A robbery kingpin was said to have been apprehended and butchered by angry residents at Ajegunle area of Lagos State recently.
The notorious robber identified simply as Harmony, with his gang, were alleged to have been terrorising residents of Ugbenwankwo, Tunkarimu, Okorogbo Streets.
They were also alleged to have raped girls and married women in the area with buses, cars, and tricycle either stolen or vandalised.
The Divisional Police Officer of Ajegunle Police Station, CSP Olubishi, who went to the scene the next day to ascertain the level of crime in the area was said to have been attacked by hoodlums with cutlasses, iron rod and other dangerous weapons.
Our correspondent learnt that Olubishi narrowly escaped the scene with his Honda Accord car vandalised by the hoodlums.
A police Inspector, attached to the station, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Olubishi fixed the vehicle with the sum of N71, 000.
He said, “The armed robbers smashed the windscreen of his car and also damaged the light of the car. They were armed with guns and cutlasses and other dangerous weapons. They raped some women and girls at Ugbenwankwo, Tunkarimu streets.”
A victim of the attack, Bode Oladoke, said the armed robbers were always operating both in the night and broad daylight.
“They came to our street, Ugbenwankwo, after 7pm. They robbed till the next day afternoon. Some were also robbing at Tunkarimu and Okorogbo streets. There was nothing the police could do, so they took to their heels.
“The residents have now bought cutlasses and other weapons to defend themselves. The residents located the hideouts of the gang leader identified as Harmony and slaughtered him . The Police later came to carry his dead body”, he explained.
He added that policemen attached to SARS, Ajeromi Local Government Area arrested three of them, saying, “The robbers carted away my plasma television, four handsets belonging to me, my wife, my daughter and my son. They went away with the sum of N64, 000.
A woman called Risikatu alleged that they raped two young girls in her residence. “I thank God that my daughter was not at home. She went to visit her elder brother at Satelite town. I was alone with my husband. There was nothing we could do than to run for safety.
