DOWEN College has appealed to Nigerians to allow the soul of late Sylvester Oromoni rest.
In a statement released after the autopsy reports, which exonerated its students, staff and the school, Dowen College pleaded with those who it said had continued to spread malicious information against it to “allow our dear Sylvester’s soul to rest peacefully in our Lord’s arms.”
It said it had maintained silence throughout the six weeks after the tragedy to allow proper investigations into the sad event, noting that the goal of the school was for the truth to be unearthed.
The 12-year-old student of Dowen College died on November 30.
The school said the longstanding integrity, values and processes it worked hard to maintain over the past 24 years were unfairly called to question and dragged through the mud, following the controversy that trailed Sylvester’s death.
It stated, “On November 30, the Dowen College family was informed we had lost one of our own: Sylvester Oromoni. Sylvester was the fourth of his family to attend Dowen College and this loss came as a shock to the entire school community.
“Unfortunately, before we could grasp and process the reality of losing him, the school was met with a public outburst; accusing five of our students of bullying, poisoning and cultism.
“The authorities directed that an autopsy be conducted. After that, the report revealed that there was no bodily harm, no intoxication, but rather that the young boy suffered and died of pre-existing health conditions that had not been treated.”
