There are concerns over alleged sexual abuse and exploitation of female students at the School of People With Special Needs, Stadium Area, Osogbo, capital of Osun State.
The Point reliably gathered that some teachers and other workers collude with some outsiders to give out female students with disabilities to some randy men to satisfy their sexual cravings.
It was also learnt that these individuals take pictures of these vulnerable groups, send them out to all manner of men who later pick those they would like to have unlawful sexual relationships with in exchange for paltry amounts of money.
Some of the girls aged between 12 and 16 were said to have fallen victims to the ugly menace.
Last week, one of the leaders of the Association of the Deaf in the state, raised an alarm over sexual activities between some deaf students of the secondary wing of the School for Special Needs under the management of the Osun State Government and some strange men who sneaked into the hostel.
The group leader, who spoke with The Point on condition of anonymity, said two men found their ways into the school hostel and had sexual intercourse with two female deaf students.
She alleged that some workers in the school, especially at the hostel are complicit to the sexual menace, urging the state government to probe the allegations and punish those found wanting.
She identified the two men who allegedly abused the deaf pupils sexually as Adekunle Kayode from Ofatedo of Osogbo and Agboola Salim from Okinni community, outskirt of the capital city.
In a Save Our Soul letter she addressed to relevant authorities for intervention, she said, “Two deaf men asked for sex from two deaf students in secondary school for persons with special needs.
“I write this brief letter to request for the punishment of two deaf men who deceived deaf students with money and sex them in the hostel.
“The two students in secondary school secretly got a phone call without knowing the plan of these two deaf men from outside.
Therefore, I want the punishment of the two deaf men for having sex with students without the knowledge of secondary school authority.”
While condemning the development, a strong voice against Sexual and Gender Based Violence in the state, Funmilayo Abdullahi, called on the school management, movement against SGBV, security agencies and the state government not to take the allegations lightly.
“I am aware that some officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are aware of the case and they are making efforts to arrest the men involved,” an official in the school said.
When contacted by The Point, the Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi said he has not been officially informed of the alleged sexual activities in the school.
He directed our reporter to the Commissioner for Education in the state, whom he said is in charge of public schools in the state.
However, efforts to get the reaction of the commissioner were not successful.
