Aisha Buhari commissions maternity complex, empowers 2000 women, youths

Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment has, offered 2000 jobs to women and youths in Adamawa State.

Mrs  Buhari  also commissioned a maternity complex  in the state donated by her foundation to the Federal Medical Centre , Yola, the state capital

Mrs Buhari said the complex would reduce maternal mortality rate in the state.

She said, the 18 bedded facility was part of efforts by her foundation to  provide access to quality health care services to women in the state.

The first lady urged stakeholder to support government effort  in addressing the health challenges confronting  the country.

Mrs Buhari who kick started a school agricultural programme at Aliyu Mustapha college where she attended her secondary school years back, also urged government to replicate the green school initiative in public schools across the state.

Commending the wife of the president for the gesture, First Lady of Ghana,  Mrs Rebecca Akovoa Ado, said the facility would bring a positive change in the lives of the Nigeria people especially women, youth  and children.

She thanked Mrs Buhari for alleviating the plight of women and  children in the society and for always  prioritising issues  affecting women and children. 

Mrs Akovoa Ado called on the Federal Government to assist Aisha’s pet  project “Future Assured Initiarive” with funds to enable it succeed.

Addressing the August visitors, Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, urged Mrs Buhari to intervene in converting Modibo Adama University of Technology to a conventional university to increase students enrollment in to the institution.

Fintiri said, the removal of management courses from the university has reduced student intake by 40 percent from the state.

Speaking earlier, Director-General of NDE,  Dr. Nasir Ladan,  described the first lady’s pet project tagged “Future Assured Initiative ” as a youth developmental programme meant to improve economic growth and national security.

“Youth development is central to economic growth and national security. In the same vein therefore , to achieve sustainable growth, the talent, creativity and entrepreneurial vigor of our youths are highly required because entrepreneurship has been identified as a viable option and strategy to address poverty and unemployment “,  he said.

He further explained that the Mrs Buhari’s pet project has given employment to 1000 women and youths who would be receiving  N10, 000 cash under the Micro-Enterprise and Enhancement Scheme ( while 550 Youths would  receive training in various vocational skills.
