ASSISTANT Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 8, Lokoja, Yunana Babas, had sent for the zone’s photographer to come to his house to take pictures shortly before his sudden death, the Police has said.
Babas, who was due for retirement in two weeks, died at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, at about 10:30 am on January 14, the Police confirmed.
Acting Public Relations Officer for the zone, Inspector Ruth Awi, who confirmed his death to journalists in Lokoja, said the late AIG was in the office on Wednesday, January 13, to attend to his official duty.
He was said to have been in the office till afternoon, after which he left for his house without showing any sign of illness.
Awi explained that the photographer who had gone to take pictures at Babas’ house on his directive, came back to the office to inform them that he could not take any photograph because the AIG took ill suddenly.
Officers therefore went to Babas’ house to take him to the Police Clinic at New Layout area in Lokoja.
She said that the health of the AIG instead of improving started deteriorating, a development which made them to rush him to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja.
“We were all outside praying and hoping that he would come out when the news filtered out that the AIG had passed on,” the PPRO said.
