THE Oyo State House of Assembly has approved a request by Governor Seyi Makinde to access a N2billion loan facility from the Central Bank of Nigeria for the implementation of the apex bank’s Anchor Borrowers Programme.

The request for the facility, to be accessed through Fidelity Bank, was contained in a letter forwarded to the lawmakers by the Governor and read by the Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, on Tuesday.

The facility is being accessed to develop the agricultural sector in the state and will be made available to the state Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Governor Makinde said the facility would be used to fund cluster farming for maize, cassava, rice and tomatoes, noting that about 6,000 youths were expected to participate in the Anchor Borrowers Programme.

The lawmakers said it was a laudable programme that should be given utmost priority.

Recall that the Governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, had met with the 36 state governors and other key stakeholders to educate them on the implementation of the Anchor Borrowers Programme in their different domains.
