The perennial crisis rocking the Federal NeuroPsychiatric Hospital, Benin, Edo State, has once more been brought to the notice of the Presidency.

In a strongly worded petition addressed to the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and copied some prominent Nigerians, including the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the eleven aggrieved staff went down memory lane to give a recap of the genesis of the crisis at the hospital.

According to the petitioners, the root of the crisis could be traced to what they alleged to be the “flawed emergence” of the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Sunday Osasu Olotu.

The petitioners disclosed that a “Panel set up by the Federal Ministry of Health in December 2011, headed by the Director in the Permanent Secretary’s office, Mrs. Rabi Adamu, reported that the process culminating in the appointment of Dr. Sunday Osasu Olotu as Medical Director of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu (FNPH-Uselu), Benin, was flawed.

“The Department of Hospital Services, led by Dr. Wapada Balami, is alleged on page 9 of the report to have misled the Federal Ministry of Health on matters of Appointment, Promotion and Discipline (APD).

“Your Excellency, we humbly wish to inform you that we have written several times to the Federal Ministry of Health on this matter and sadly we never received any response, not to talk of addressing the issues raised in our letters.”
