HOODLUMS, on Tuesday, stormed the house of a Police Inspector, in Ikot Afanga Community, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, and burnt him alive.
The unidentified hoodlums were said to have stormed the police officer’s residence at about 2am, barricaded the house and set it ablaze while the Inspector, simply identified as Aniekan, was asleep.
Recall that hoodlums had, on February 22, 2021, burnt a police inspector alive inside a police van, while others escaped.
The incident occurred at the police checkpoint at Ikpe Annang Junction.
The latest incident, involving the inspector who was set ablaze while sleeping, has been linked by residents to his role as a prosecutor in the detention and conviction of criminals in the area.
The Police, however, said it had yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state,

He said, “We are aware of the incident. It is quite unfortunate. We have yet to establish the remote and immediate cause of the attacks, but we will be able to establish that when investigations are concluded.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Andrew Amiengheme, is deeply saddened and has consoled the bereaved family.”
“He has ordered mass police operation in the area. It is ongoing now and hopefully, the culprits will be apprehended and I can assure you that justice will prevail at the end,” he added.
