Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has charged the 1,150 newly recruited and trained personnel of Osun Amotekun Corps to be dedicated crime fighters and shun corruption in their daily undertakings.
The governor gave this charge at the passing out parade of the Amotekun trainees at the NYSC Orientation camp in Ede on Friday.
Governor Adeleke disclosed his administration’s determination to fully secure the state by opting to deepen the personnel structure and capacity of the security service.
Part of his strides was ensuring appointment of a new leadership with vast knowledge in security operations and law enforcement, adding, “Our administration then provided a befitting operational headquarters for the service to serve as coordinating point.”
He added, “Details of the reform initiative include the expansion of the total number of personnel, upgraded training in law enforcement, and expansion of operational equipment and logistics for the service. Full implementation of the plans will strengthen the capacity of the Amotekun service to fulfill its mandate.”
Promising the agency that his administration will provide them with tools to work, Adeleke said: “We are gathered here to see the outcome of the implementation process. We have a new set of fully trained, operationally ready service personnel. This is the first batch of trainees. More of this training will be held in the near future.
“In line with our administration’s commitment to the security of lives and properties, I assure the leadership and the rank and file of the service that our administration is focussed on full execution of the upgrade agenda. We will provide you with the required tools to work.”
The governor assured the Amotekun service that its requests for vehicles, bikes, and other operational equipment will be looked into immediately.
He charged the new trainees to demonstrate patriotic commitment to the service, urging them to be dedicated anti- crime fighters, avoid corruption and other conducts that violate the law.
Earlier in his welcome address, the board chairman of the corps, Wale Abbas, described the recruitment and passing out parade as manifestation of Adeleke’s support for grassroots security and community policing.
Addressing the governor, Abbas said, “The operatives before us were once job seekers eager to contribute meaningfully to society but lacking the opportunity. Through your magnanimous decision to recruit them into the Osun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), you have transformed their destinies.
“They have undergone rigorous training, instilled with discipline, courage, and the ethos of selfless service. Today, they stand before us not as ordinary citizens but as gallant operatives in the noble mission of securing Osun State. For this, history will forever remember you as a leader who invested in the security and future of Osun State.”
TRAINING OVERVIEW
In order to induct these recruits into the security framework of the State, a three-week intensive training program was organized. This training, which commenced on the 10th of March 2025, was designed to equip them with the professional knowledge needed for effective participation in law enforcement activities.
Under the guidance of seasoned security professionals, including experts from the Nigerian Police Force, the Army, the Air Force, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies, Abbas said the recruits underwent rigorous drills in unarmed combat, intelligence gathering, crime prevention techniques, weapon handling, communication, field tactics, and the fundamentals of community policing.
He, however, called on Governor Adeleke to ensure that the operatives are fully integrated into the public service structure of the state.
“We humbly urge Your Excellency to kindly approve the immediate gazetting of these operatives into the service so that their status can be legally recognized. This will not only grant them a sense of dignity and belonging but will also motivate them to discharge their duties with utmost commitment and professionalism. By formalizing their employment, you will be strengthening the foundation of the Amotekun Corps as a formidable force in the fight against crime.
“Your Excellency, as we deploy these newly trained officers, it is imperative that they are adequately equipped to combat emerging security threats effectively. We respectfully seek your continued support in providing the Corps with: Operational Vehicles: 1 Hilux trucks per local government, 40 for the headquarters. Motorcycles: 10 per local government, 100 at the headquarters.
Firearms: A minimum of 310 pump-action rifles for the 31 LGAs and an additional 1,000 for statewide operations. Communication Gadgets: Modern walkie-talkies to improve coordination. Surveillance Drones: For intelligence gathering and crime prevention.
Body Armor & Tactical Gear: To enhance operational safety.
“These tools are essential for ensuring rapid response to security threats, especially in remote and high-risk areas,” he demanded.
Abbas urged the new recruits to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights, adding that, “The people of Osun State are looking up to you for protection. Never betray the trust placed in you.”
