Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has approved, with immediate effect, the appointment of Prince Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland.
The governor also approved the appointment of Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye as the new Asaoni of Ora Igbomina.
The Point has reported that Haastrup emerged winner during an election by kingmakers of Ijesaland on Friday.
A statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, indicated that the approval of the two monarchs was ratified and approved during the seating of the Osun State Executive Council Meeting presided over by its Chairman and Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke on Friday afternoon.
“The appointments of Prince Haastrup as the new Owa -elect was sequel to the demise of the immediate past Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesha land, Oba ( Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II on the 11th of September 2024 while that of Prince Abikoye as the new Asaoni of Ora Igbomina followed the demise of Oba Tinuoye Atolagbe on the 19th of Nov.2023,” the statement noted.
According to Alimi, Governor Adeleke, while congratulating the two newly approved monarchs whom he said their choices followed due processes in line with the Chiefs’ law of Osun State 2002 (cap 25), enjoined all sons and daughters of the two towns to co-operate with their new traditional rulers, particularly in allowing peace and unity to take the centre stage .
Meanwhile, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state had congratulated the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Haastrup.
The PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, in a statement, appreciated the state government for taking the bold step to fill the vacant stool of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.
He said, “Our great party have no doubt that the Owa Obokun elect will foster stronger unity, peace and progress among the ever industrious people of Ijesaland just as we call on the Ijesa sons and daughters to work with the new monarch towards the development of the ancient ijesa kingdom.
“Our party repose so much confidence in the love of the Kabiyesi, Oba Clement Adesuyi for Ijesa and continue on the path of rapid development of the kingdom as exemplified by his predecessor, late Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.
“Once again, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, on behalf of the leaders and esteemed members of our party, rejoice with sons and daughters of Ijesaland on the enthronement of the new paramount ruler.
“Our party also urges all princes in the royal families of Ijesa to at this time, demonstrate the Ijesa blue blood in them and work in solidarity with the new Imperial Majesty, Owa Obokun of Ijesa, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup for continued progress of the Ijesa people.”
