A leading gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress in Ogun State, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has described the party as “the fastest growing party to beat in the 2019 general elections.”
Isiaka, popularly called GNI, made this assertion after he obtained his Expression of Interest/Nomination Forms for governorship position at the party’s National Secretariat, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Isiaka said though the party had been in existence in Ogun State before now, it had witnessed tremendous growth in the past few months.
He said, “It is a clean and fresh party. At the level it is now, it is the fastest growing party.Since a number of us moved into the party, a lot has changed and the clamour for the tickets at all levels is about the fiercest ever. There are some locations where we have as many as 10 people aspiring to go to the state assembly. Over 100 people have expressed interest in various positions and many will still come up.
“People will not be expressing interest if they don’t believe the party is going to win. From the humble beginning of the party around April and May this year, when a number of us adopted the party, up till now, it has continued to grow.”
On his aspiration to govern the state, Isiaka said he remained the most experienced among those who had come out for the number one political office in Ogun.
He said, “If you have run a race twice, you are meant to have picked a lot of experience. At the last election, I won nine out of 20 local government areas in the state; so, it was a close race. The incumbent now is not running; I am running against other people. You can see the quantum of rancour they have in their midst, which was one of the things that cost us the last election.
“Since I joined ADC, our effort has been with the people. We have been doing quite a lot, interacting with the people. I can assure you that anybody can come to Ogun State today and carry out investigation; they will tell you we are the party to beat. We are going to carry that to the election.”
Isiaka, however, pledged that he would not dump ADC after winning election on its platform.
He added, “My prayer is that all the parties take their candidates from Ogun West. That will be a clear advantage because the other parts of the state will now vote the person they know and there is nobody that will contest the election now that has contested at the level I have contested. I pray that happens, that is what we are praying for; that is what I am expecting.
“If that happens, it means the Ogun West will produce governor in 42 years since the creation of the state. So, if all candidates come from there, at the end of the day, an Ogun West person will emerge governor. From my own point of view, what that means is that other parts of the state, the East and the Central, will now vote for who they know and I know that on that ground, I will have an edge.”
