The Group Managing Director, Access Bank Plc. Mr. Herbert Wigwe, has said that the financial institution is still committed to empowering women in the area of information sharing, capacity building and more access to finance, to grow and expand their businesses.
At an event in Lagos, the GMD said the role of women in nation-building as well as the economy could not be under-estimated, explaining that women formed a strategic focus for the bank.
Wigwe said, “We appreciate your partnership. We want feedback from a select few. Another reason for this meeting is to see how we can do more to grow your business and become more productive in order to be so much better.
“Empowering women is truly at the heart of our strategy and of course, other things we have to do as far as sustainability is concerned. In the last couple of years, we have made significant progress as far as supporting women in business is concerned.”
He explained that the ‘W Initiative’, which was formed in 2014, was meant to empower and inspire women.
“Sometimes it’s not all about money. It’s about sharing information and capacity building for the more discerning women. Access Bank would welcome constructive criticisms that would make its operations better,”
he added.
The Group Head, Inclusive Banking, Access Bank, Ms. Ope Wemi-Jones, said the ‘W Initiative’ of the bank was launched to take care of women in business.
She said, “We are going to create tomorrow together. The ‘W Initiative’ is about inspiring, connecting and empowering women, and was launched in 2014.”
