Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to award contracts within the next two weeks for the construction of the Alagbole-Akute and Akute-Oke-Aro-Ijoko roads in the Ifo Local Government Area.
The governor made this disclosure during the commissioning of the Ojodu Abiodun-Denro-Ishasi-Akute Road on Friday, stating that construction works would commence from Akute towards Oke Aro.
He said. “Within the next few weeks, or a maximum of three weeks, in my determination to ensure this local government assumes a new look, I will award the Alagbole-Akute Road. I will also award the Akute-Ijoko-Oke-Aro Road.
“The Akute-Ijoko-Oke-Aro Road spans 32 kilometres and connects Sango. We have already constructed around 15 kilometres from the Sango end, and we are now set to begin from Akute towards Oke Aro. Once completed, it will connect the entire loop, including Hercules, Akute-Ajuwon, and Alagbole-Ajuwon. God will help us.”
Abiodun emphasised that a robust road network is essential for development, noting that the ongoing construction of the Toyin-Giwa, Akute-Ajuwon, and Akute-Alagbole roads would be completed and commissioned in three months.
He added, “I was here months ago, and in my responsive nature—as a government must be—I took note of the Toyin-Giwa-Hercules Road, the Akute-Ajuwon Road, and the Alagbole-Ajuwon Road. Work began shortly after, and I am happy to confirm that these roads will likely be commissioned in two to three months.
“I’ve received positive feedback about the quality of work, and I am pleased with the contractor’s efforts.”
The governor highlighted the challenges faced by residents due to the deplorable state of the Ojodu-Abiodun-Denro-Ishasi-Akute Road, saying its reconstruction underscores his administration’s commitment to alleviating their suffering.
“When I assumed office, I visited this local government, noticed the poor state of this road, and promised to reconstruct it. Today, I am proud to say the road has been transformed, bringing relief to the people.
“This local government is a vital area in Ogun State. This road provides opportunities for residents to live and work either here or in Lagos while enjoying affordability and peace,” Abiodun noted.
The governor urged residents to maintain the road properly, avoid blocking the drainage, and respect speed breakers installed to prevent reckless driving.
He called on investors to choose Ogun State, assuring them that his administration remains committed to infrastructure development and creating a business-friendly environment.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, in his remarks, said the 4.65km road with a 30-metre bridge was designed to enhance connectivity, boost economic growth, and support the overall development of the area while ensuring seamless links to Lagos State.
Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Idris Kusimo, commended the project, describing it as a catalyst for economic growth that would revitalise commercial activities in the area.
