The Abia State Government has threatened to take drastic action against any road transporter in the state flouting its orders or undermining its Internally Generated Revenue drive.

The state Commissioner for Transport, Nnenna Onwuka, stated this in a chat with The Point at the end of a meeting with the managers of road transport companies operating in the state in her office in Umuahia, the state capital.

Onwuka warned that the government would no longer condone activities of transporters flouting government orders or sabotaging its efforts at keeping the environment in the state clean.

She noted with sadness the degeneration of Millerton Avenue, a section of the Government Reserved Area of Aba, to a slum due to the activities of both the residents and the transporters operating in the area.

She said transporters operating along the avenue, Park, and Asa Roads, Aba had been given a 7-day ultimatum from Monday to relocate to Hummer Bus section of Umungasi Modern Motor Park in the town.
