A First Class traditional ruler in Kogi State, Alhaji Usman Sani, who was kidnapped last Friday, has been freed.
Sani, the Acting Ejeh of Ankpa, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen, while observing morning prayers at the mosque, was said to have been released on Sunday.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, William Aya, confirmed his release, but denied reports that a ransom was paid.
The Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Edeh, was said to have ordered that operatives be drafted to secure the monarch’s freedom.
Unconfirmed reports had said that the kidnappers had initially demanded N25 million ransom from the victim’s family, which they negotiated down to N1m.
