RENOWNED Nigerian geographer, Prof Akin Mabogunje, is dead.
The great scholar was born on October 18, 1931, in Kano, and has in nine decades carved a niche for himself in his field.
In a short message announcing his death on Thursday, his cousin, Lola Visser-Mabogunje, wrote, “Prof. Akin Mabogunje, 1931-2022. A great man is gone but will remain forever in our hearts. We shall miss you brother.”
The ‘father’ of Geography and one of the ‘fathers’ of the Social Sciences in Nigeria, is the recipient of over 20 Honours in various academic, professional and administrative fields, both at the national and international levels.
There has been no official statement by the family as of the time of filing this report.
