Tiwa Savage, who just signed an international deal with Roc Nation, has revealed that he met Jay Z through his cousin, Ryam Bricks.
Speaking with The Point, she said that Jay Z’s cousin had been coming to Nigeria to scout for talent and that it was on one of those trips that they met.
She said, “I guess he (Bricks) has been monitoring my career and decided that I was the one he wanted to go with, particularly because I am a female artiste. The other people that had been getting international deals have been male artistes. He decided to strike a deal with a female artiste because if you look at the entertainment scene in America, you would notice that the biggest stars are such people like Rihanna, Adele and Beyoncé. Jay Z feels that there is a market for female artistes.”
Meeting Jay Z gave Tiwa an incredible feeling. According to her, when she met him, she saw that he was also human.
“He is a very relaxed person and he made us feel comfortable. Everything happened so fast that I really did not have the time to get nervous. He spoke a lot and we learnt from his experience and wisdom. Meeting him is a great achievement and I need to prove to the world that the partnership will be successful.” Regardless of her growing busy schedule, she insisted that her son was her priority, adding that she could not do anything that would jeopardise his safety or happiness. She noted , “In fact, I am actually doing everything I can to make sure that his future is secured. I do not think I have a clear plan on how I would joggle everything together, but I know that whatever I do would not adversely affect my son.”
For her, she does not let negative criticisms to get to her. She remains focused on the people who love her. And since she has no powers to make anyone love her, she tries not to convince them.
“I would rather focus on the people who love me and make sure I do not disappoint them. I am very happy, I am blessed. I have a child and I have no reasons to be unhappy. My career is getting stronger every day; I just signed an international deal, why shouldn’t I be happy?”
