Residents of Ondo community agonize as siblings, others get electrocuted

Residents of Oke Aigo street in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Council Area of Ondo State were thrown into mourning on April 21 as two siblings and two other children got electrocuted in a cabin (shop) when a newly installed 11kv power line snapped and fell on it.

The people said that the joy of Easter festivity was marred by the tragedy.

The names of those who got electrocuted are Jesutofunmi and Motunrayo Akinyemiju, Adebiyi Adebowale and Samuel Akinfisoye, a son to the Baale of Adegbaso village, in ile-Oluji.

Adebiyi Precious, who survived the accident, is said to be in critical condition at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile Ife, Osun State.

It was gathered that the five affected children converged to celebrate the birthday of one of them in a cabin when the unexpected occurred when electricity was restored in the area.

The four children that got electrocuted were said to be leaning on the steel container while the survivor reportedly sat on a plank inside the container.

Olumide Adebiyi, father to one of the victims, said that the children were catching fun with the birthday celebrant when the unexpected happened.

The man said that the cable snapped and fell on the container where the children were celebrating as electricity was restored to the area at about 4pm.

Akinlayo Akinyemiju, father to the two siblings who were electrocuted said that “I had three children, two died suddenly in one day. I have been in shock since April 21 when l lost my daughters. They were not sick, they went for Easter festivity only for a relation to call me on the phone that something has happened to my children.”
