Driver, 9 passengers perish in fatal auto crash in Osun

No fewer than ten persons have lost their lives in a fatal auto accident that occurred on Sunday night at Abata-Egba Village along Ondo road in Ile Ife, Osun State.

It was gathered that a commercial bus driver and ten passengers died in the road mishap.

Our correspondent gathered that the accident involved a truck with registration number MUS 847 XC and a Toyota commercial bus with registration number JJJ 15 XJ.

According to eyewitnesses, the two vehicles had a head-on collision, when one of them overtook another vehicle at a wrong position, facing the oncoming vehicle.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, said ten persons were confirmed dead by medical doctors and that their remains had been deposited at the morgue of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife.

The police commissioner, who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said those who sustained injuries in the accident were receiving treatment in the same hospital.

The police boss warned motorists on the highway to always avoid dangerous driving and watch carefully before overtaking.

The CP said that the obstruction caused on the road because of the accident had been cleared by the team of traffic policemen, who were drafted to the scene to ensure free flow of traffic.
