The Police in Osun State have dragged a 30-year-old man, Jamiu Ibrahim, before an Ifetedo Magistrate’s court for allegedly impersonating a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and swindling those seeking recruitment into the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The prosecutor, Inspector Monday Ojiezele, told the court that Ibrahim had at Odemuyiwa Village Junction, Garage Olode in Ifetedo, Ife South Local Government Area of the state, paraded himself as a civil defence officer.
Ojiezele said the accused fraudulently obtained the sum of N448, 100 from two job-seekers, Emmanuel Abolarin and Joshua Adeyemi, seeking to be recruited into the Nigeria Immigration Service.
He added that the accused person had promised to secure jobs for Abolarin and Adeyemi but failed to redeem his promise.
The police then accused him of stealing the sum of N488, 100 belonging to the job-seekers.
The police prosecutor argued that Ibrahim committed an offence contrary to Section 382, and punishable under Sections 180 (2), 390 and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Ibrahim’s counsel, Mr. Sunday Olagbaju, applied for his bail in less stringent terms, assuring the court that there were responsible sureties to stand for his bail.
Presiding Magistrate, Dorcas Ajiboye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ajiboye ordered that the sureties, who must be relatives of the accused, must swear to affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The magistrate ruled that the addresses of the sureties must be verified by the investigating police officer in the case.
She stated that the accused and sureties should produce two recent passport photographs and adjourned the case to October 26, for hearing.
