FIRS boss, Fowler, elected ATAF president

The executive chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Babatunde Fowler, has emerged the president of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF).
Fowler defeated his Togolese opponent in an election, which held in Pretoria, South Africa with 13 votes to four polled by his opponent.
Accepting the responsibility, the FIRS boss pledged to expand ATAF’s membership for the development of the African continent.
He said, “Our goal shall be to aid the generation of revenue efficiently and sufficiently for the growth of all members.”
An official from Mauritius was elected vice-president, just as South Africa, Ghana, Burundi, Uganda and Liberia were also elected in the 10-country council of ATAF.
ATAF, a 36-member forum is made up of tax collecting agencies from across the continent, was launched in November 2009 in Kampala, Uganda, with a mission “to provide a platform to improve the capacity, capability and performance of tax administrations in Africa.”
