Former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi has said that Nigerians would not take it lightly with the Super Eagles should they not qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Ogunjobi, who said he was confident that the Eagles would qualify, however urged the team to ensure that they win convincingly, as that would bring smiles to the faces of Nigerians who are unhappy with their lackluster performances in recent times.
Addressing journalists under the umbrella of Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun state branch, during its monthly stakeholders forum tagged “SWAN Platform” on Wednesday, Ogunjobi said Nigeria chances of qualifying is bright.
The former NFF official advised Eagles who had missed out from two Cup of Nations competitions, to ensure they qualify for the world cup.
The chairman, Osun Football Association and Prime Football Club said, “Things are already tough in the country; football is one major exercise that binds Nigerians together; Nigerians will not take any excuse from Super Eagles not to make it to the world cup.”
Ogunjobi stressed that the management of the NFF understands the need for Nigeria to take part in the World Cup, as this would help in calming the nerves of Nigerians who had been disappointed over Eagles’ failure to qualify for the Nations Cup.
For failing to qualify in the Nations Cup, Ogunjobi said many Nigerian sports lovers had been discouraged and had lost hope in the competence of the nation’s football team.
He however urged the team to redeem their image by qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.
