Ranger International of Enugu made history on Sunday by breaking a 32-year-old jinx, after
subduing El-Kenami Warriors of Maiduguri 4-0 to lift the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football
League title.
A hat trick by Chisom Egbuchulam and another goal by Osas Okoro were all Rangers needed to complete their heart-warming victory.
Rangers finished the weeek-long battle with 63 points, after playing 36 matches. Before
Sunday’s victory, they already won 17 matches, drew nine and lost nine games ahead of
Rivers United who also ended the league with 60 points.
Wikki Tourists were third on the table with 57 points, as FC Ifeanyi Ubah came fourth with
56points.

captureFor the first time since 2012, the stronghold of the ‘big two’ is broken. Kano Pillars claimed the title in 2012, 2013 ad 2014 before Enyimba nixed their dominance to claim a seventh record title. Now that has changed as Rangers with their brand of free-flowing attacking football are now kings of Nigerian league.
Heartland had a terrible season as it finished third to the bottom of the table with Ikorodu United and Giwa FC .
