Court remands four teenagers in prison over alleged theft

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of four teenagers at the Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing items worth the sum of N428,000.

Agboola Adeyemi, 18; Francis Felix, 18; Richard Sunday, 18; and Abubakar Rasheed, 19, were charged with three counts bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Razaq Olayiwola, said the teenagers conspired among themselves to steal a steel valued N300,000 property of one Bashiru Adeleke and other items such as cooking gas cylinder valued at N30.000, one small gate valued at N10,000, one grounder stand valued at N8,000, four iron chairs valued at N20,000, two trailer realms valued at N60,000, properties of one Afolabi Lawrence, totalling N128.000.

Olayiwola told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 15 at about 4:30am at Surulere Street, off Odi -Olowo area, Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial district.

The offences are contrary to and punishable under Section 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the allegations. Their counsel, K.E. Adepoju, urged the court to grant the defendants bail on liberal terms.

Magistrate A. A Adeyeba adjourned the ruling on the bail till Friday and ordered that the four persons be remanded.
