Eterna beats FBNH to top weekly trading by volume

Eterna Plc, a firm listed in the Oil and Gas Industry beat FBN Holdings Plc to top the weekly trading charts by volume, despite investors’ appetite remaining strong on the equities of the financial services group.

According to the ‘Weekly Market Report for the Week Ended 29-10-2021,’ transmitted to The Point electronically from the Nigerian Exchange Limited, the top three equities, by volume, during the week were, “Eterna Plc, FBN Holdings Plc, and Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc.”

It stated, “Trading in the top three equities namely Eterna Plc, FBN Holdings Plc, and Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 1.731 billion shares worth N19.681 billion in 4,207 deals, contributing 57.66 per cent and 56.97 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.”

From the report, a total turnover of 3.001 billion shares worth N34.547 billion in 25,932 deals were traded by investors on the floor of the Exchange, during the week under review, in contrast to a total of 1.565 billion shares valued at N18.384 billion which exchanged hands the previous week in 21,621 deals.

Despite Eterna’s strong showing, the Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) still led the activity chart with 1.600 billion shares valued at N15.608 billion traded in 14,065 deals; as it contributed 53.33 per cent and 45.18 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The second position went to the Oil and Gas Industry, which recorded 845.699 million shares worth N11.725 billion in 1,706 deals, while the third place was taken by the Conglomerates Industry, with a turnover of 220.120 million shares worth N335.235 million in 1,238 deals.

A total of 186,360 units valued at N3.251 million were traded during the week under review in 16 deals compared with a total of 549 units valued at N10,680 transacted in the earlier week in 7 deals.

BONDS
A total of 47,577 units valued at N50.350 million were traded in the week under review in 32 deals compared with a total of 12,256 units valued at N12.227 million transacted the previous week in 19 deals.
