A former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has expressed readiness to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Oyinlola, a former National Secretary of the party, however, said that he would throw his hat in the ring if the vacant Chairmanship position is zoned to the South West and his ability to galvanise support of the stakeholders of the party.

He made these known on Wednesday while speaking on a Rave Fm’s radio programme (Frank Talk) monitored by The Point in Osogbo.

Oyinlola revealed that he was more prepared to serve in the office of PDP National Chairman because he had garnered a decade of cumulative experience in governance both as military administrator of Lagos State and third civilian governor of Osun State.

He described those attacking him because of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 to as cheap blackmailers.

According to him, his leaving the PDP was because the party drove him away by engineering his removal. He said a plan was concocted because President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wanted to run for a second term in 2015.

The former Commander of Nigerian military contingent to Somalia stated that for such position, only capacity, capability and integrity matter.

He added that his records stand for him because he had served in two states in Nigeria without being found wanting.

He maintained that if the Chairmanship position is zoned to the South West and the party leaders in the zone pick him as their choice, he would have no choice than to contest the seat.

Recall that the party’s embattled National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus was suspended by a Rivers High Court from parading himself as the chairman.

Responding to his chances of becoming the National Chairman of PDP considering he once decamped to All Progressives Congress, APC, Oyinlola said “those in PDP then pushed me out wrongly.

“If Ademola Adeleke who was in APC could be given senatorial ticket when he joined PDP, Atiku Abubakar was in APC, given presidential ticket when he joined PDP, so, what is wrong if I contest for this (National Chairmanship) office?” he asked rhetorically.

“My experiences in different leadership capacity is enough to lead PDP at the national level,” he argued.
