A Muslim cleric in Osun State, popularly called “Afa,” is currently cooling his heels in the custody of the police in the state for allegedly killing a 25-year-old man and dismembering his body.
Our correspondent gathered that Alfa, on Wednesday, at Omi Ayo area in Ilesa, murdered the victim, simply identified by one of his friends as Lukasis, and severed his two hands before dumping his remains in a bush around Ilerin inIlesa.
It was further gathered that the suspect is a ritualist and had allegedly killed the young man for ritual purposes.
The tragic incident threw residents of Ilesa into panic as Lukasis‘ demise hit the social media, generating condemnation against the suspect.
While some residents of the area claimed that the suspect turned himself over to the police, others said he was arrested by the while trying to escape.
An eyewitness, Olatunbosun Olubunmi said, “I was at Wesley Guild Hospital when policemen led him (Alfa) to the mortuary to come and take photographs with the corpse of the murdered boy.
“He (Alfa) killed the boy (Lukasis), took his money, cut his hands, dumped his body around Ilerin and later surrendered himself to the police,” he added.
Meanwhile, the police authorities in the state, on Friday confirmed the death of the victim, disclosing that his remains were discovered and deposited in a morgue.
In a telephone chat with our correspondent, police spokesperson, Mr. Ajibade Egbedele, disclosed that the suspect was arrested by men of the Ilesa Police Division after killing the man and dumping his body in the bush.
Egbedele, the Osun Police Public Relations Officer, said, “The suspect was arrested by our men in Ilesa. After killing his victim, he dumped his body in a bush. But the police have recovered the body and the severed hands were with the suspect after his arrest.”
He added that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo, saying investigation was ongoing.
“What I can tell you now is that the matter is still under investigation. The suspect will be charged to court after the investigation must have been concluded,” Egbedele stated.
