Suspected armed robbers have shot Major M S. Ismail of the Nigerian Army dead, according to the Jigawa State Police Command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa Police Command, Asp Lawan Adam, confirmed that the incident occurred at Danbis village in Jigawa State.
The PPRO further stated that the late Major, and an army PTE Hamisu Ali, were relocating to Kaduna State from Maiduguri when the incident occurred.
The police spokesman said, “On July 4, around 9pm, information received informed the police that the Maiduguri-Kano Highway was blocked by armed robbers.
“Police patrol team moved to the scene, about 40 metres from Danbis village. When they arrived at the scene, the robbers fled into the bush.
“They shot one PTE Hamisu Aliyu in the neck and shoulder and Major M S. Ismail was also shot dead. They were travelling from Maiduguri to Kaduna in a private vehicle number, BWR 105 BX.“
Adam said that police detectives had been directed to apprehend the bandits.
