A resident of Kano, Saifullah Ayagi, has been sentenced to a three-year jail term by a Kano State Chief Magistrate’s Court on offences bordering on criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery.
The convict was alleged to have defrauded some unsuspecting members of the public of money under the pretence that he would help them secure jobs.
Agayi had allegedly printed and disbursed fake job offer letters to his victims.
During the hearing, the state prosecution counsel, Mariam Muhammad, told the court that the convict had collected the sum of N300,000 from each of his victims to whom he issued the fake letters of appointment.
The prosecution added that Agayi acted contrary to the provisions of the Penal Code Laws.
Agayj admitted to the allegations against him, saying that the charges preferred against him were true.
Haruna Khaleel, Chief Magistrate, ordered the convict to proceed on a two-year jail term for committing forgery. He was, however, given an option of N20,000 fine.
The court further ruled that he should refund the monies obtained through false pretence from his victims or serve the two-year jail term.
The judge also ordered him to pay another N20,000 fine for cheating or serve eight months concurrently.
