Police arrest Nigerien, father of five for burglary in Lagos markets

The police have arrested a 21-year-old Nigerien, Yakubu Adamu and his accomplice, Issa Musa, 48, for alleged burglary of shops in popular markets in Lagos.
Police operatives attached to the newly re-structured Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, arrested the two members of a 7-man gang, who specialized in breaking into shops at Idumota/Balogun and some other markets in Lagos State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the suspects were arrested in the early hours of last Thursday shortly after they had carried out their operations at Idumota/Balogun markets.
Adejobi, a superintendent of police, said the arrest of the two members of the gang was as a result of the swift response of police operatives to a tip-off on the regular criminal acts of the syndicate, which had caused untold hardship to shop owners in the markets.
The zonal PPRO said, “The suspects, YAKUBU ADAMU,m,21,a Niger Republic nationale, and ISSA MUSA,m,48,father of 5,who hails from Borno State, Nigeria, have no fixed address and have been in this dirty “business” for years before their arrest at Obalende,Lagos State, while waiting for the arrival of the receivers of their stolen wears, including undies.
“More than 10(ten) bags of undies and wears worth millions of Naira and one unregistered Toyota Corrola, which is their operational vehicle, were recovered from them. Also, due to thorough search conducted on their operational car, 2(two) cutlasses, 2 chisels and one heavy cutter were recovered in the bonnet of the car, where they were concealed after their operation.”
The zonal spokesman added that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed the officer-in-charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the zone to affect the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang and the receivers of their stolen goods for proper investigation and prosecution.
Adejobi also said that the AIG Zone 2 had also vowed to cripple the activities of criminals, hoodlums, cultists and land grabbers in his zonal command.
Ali further assured the people of Lagos and Ogun states of adequate security and strict maintenance of law and order.
