The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has urged Nigerians to support the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major Gen. Faruk Yahaya.

Oluwo, who expressed concern over the mounting insecurity in the nation, advised stakeholders and the citizens at large to cooperate with the army chief.

The monarch described the COAS as a gallant officer whose military acumen would be proven by the success of combating banditry and insurgency in the land.

Oba Akanbi, in a statement made available to journalists on Monday, stated that support for the Nigerian army would serve as a motivation to them.

The statement reads, “The trust and love for the Nigerian army should be renewed to effectively checkmate security challenge plaguing Nigeria. Nigerians, in manifestation of their patriotism, must drum support for the new Chief of Army Staff.

“Major General Faruk is a gallant military man, an expert in insurgence checkmating and a patriot to the core. I have strong trust in his ability to deliver and effectively decimate insurgency in Nigeria. Nigerians should encourage him through prayers and necessary backing.

“Insecurity cannot be fought alone by the officers in uniform. They deserve our prayer, backing and support. Let’s unite to flush out bad eggs causing mayhem in the nation. Nigeria is ours. Our unity and support to the Nigerian army are strengths to bring bandits to book.

“I enjoin the Nigerian Senate to speed up his confirmation.”
