VICE-CHANCELLOR of Abia State University, Uturu, Prof. Maxwell Ogbulu, disclosed, on Friday, that the abductors of students of the University had made contacts.

He, however, did not give details of the contact for security reasons but said the school was working in collaboration with the security agencies and the Abia State Government to track the kidnappers and rescue the victims unhurt.

The VC, who spoke at a press briefing on Friday, however, said only one student was remaining with the captives as two of them had earlier escaped shortly after their abduction.

According to him, other passengers that were abducted along with the students are still in captivity, so the number of kidnapped victims remains unclear.

On whether the two escapees gave any clue on the identity of the abductors, Ogbulu said the security operatives had interacted with them and had gotten the necessary information.

He also noted that the management of the University had taken some steps to prevent similar occurrence in the future.

Some of the measures, according to the VC, include holding lectures between 9:00am and 4:00pm to avoid late hour travels, and increased surveillance around the university community.

He advised students against travelling at odd times and urged them to observe necessary security tips.
