SCORES of residents of Ipetumodu, the headquarters of Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, have been rendered homeless after a devastating rainstorm wreaked havoc.

Residential buildings, shops and electric polls were destroyed in the tragic incident that occurred on Thursday.

The affected properties, worth millions of Naira, were damaged as roofs of buildings were blown away, leaving many residents homeless.

The affected areas included Koso, Akinola, Ipetumodu Town Hall, Market Square to Sooko, Alagbayun to Origbo Community High School, OCHS Ipetumodu, Adekola compound, Isale-Ola as well as C&S Grammar School, Ipetumodu.

Reacting to the development, General Secretary, Ipetumodu Development Forum, IDF, Kehinde Oyetumbi, lamented that many residents had been subjected to misery since their belongings and means of livelihood were affected.

He said containers were blown away, while traffic was obstructed by electric poles, which fell on the main roads linking Ipetumodu with other neighbouring communities.

Oyetumbi said, although no casualty was recorded, many residents were seen packing out of buildings that had their roofs blown off by the heavy downpour.

He added that the rain, which started around 4:12pm and lasted till 5:54pm on that day had put many residents of the ancient Ipetumodu community in undue stress.

Oyetumbi, who called for the urgent intervention of the state, local and federal governments, lamented that, social and economy activities of the entire community had been paralysed due to the incident.

“We are appealing to the Osun State Government, Osun State Emergency Management Agency, National Emergency Management Agency, and philanthropists to come to the aid of the people of Ipetumodu,” he appealed.
