An Ekiti State Magistrate court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has remanded a 42-year-old man, Josiah Johnson in prison for allegedly beating his wife,Juliana Johnson, to death for denying him sex.
Police prosecutor ,Sgt. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 3 at Erio-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area of the state.
“The accused, on the said date, unlawfully caused the death of his wife, Mrs Julianah Johnson by beating her to death.
Akinwale further told the court that Johnson had wanted to have sexual intercourse with his wife but she refused, saying she was afraid of getting pregnant after seven children.
According to the police prosecutor, Johnson then beat the deceased with his fist and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her, resulting in her death.
Akinwale said that the offence contravened Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code,Cap C 16,Laws of Ekiti State. 2012.
He told the court that he had duplicated his case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The plea of the accused was not taken as his counsel, Mr. TundeFalade, sought a short date of adjournment pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade, however, remanded the accused in prison and adjourned the case to September 12 for further hearing.
