Court sends man to prison for beating two Police Inspectors in Osun

A 41-year-old man, Kamorudeen Oyedele, has been remanded in the Ilesa Correctional Centre by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly beating two policemen with cutlass.

Oyedele, who operates a pharmaceutical shop in Ilobu, was accused of beating one Inspector Adekanmi Ogunniyi and one Inspector Moshood Ayanleke with cutlass in January, 2021 while performing their lawful duties.

The Police further alleged that Oyedele maliciously damaged the uniforms of Ogunniyi and another Policeman, Olabode Olawale, by tearing them.

According to the charge sheet, Oyedele also stole a pair of slippers belonging to a a pregnant woman during anti-natal and forcefully collected the sum of N1,000 from her.

He was also accused of attempting to kill a 60-year-old woman, Taibat Oladapo, by putting firewood under her chair, which burnt her right leg.

Oyedele allegedly committed the offence on March 16, 2021 in Ilobu.

The alleged offences contravened Sections 356(1)(2), 390, 320 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

But the defendant pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge of assault, malicious damage, breach of peace, stealing and attempted murder levelled against him. 

Presiding Magistrate, Adekanmi Adeyeba, told the defence counsel, Olatunbosun Oladipupo, to file a formal application for the bail of the accused person.

Adeyeba ordered that the accused person be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till March 30, 2021, for mention.
