Effium crisis: Natives barred from moving belongings without Police clearance

SEQUEL to the looting activities of hoodlums in the disputed area of Effium Community, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, the Government has ordered that natives must not move their belongings out without police clearance.

The state Deputy Governor, Kelechi Igwe, gave the directive in a statement signed and made available to newsmen by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

According to Igwe, the hoodlums, who are taking advantage of the crisis in Effium to loot property of those who fled their homes, will be dealt with severely when apprehended.

The Deputy Governor also directed security agencies to intensify efforts and patrol the nooks and crannies of the community to ensure protection of property in Effium, noting that the Government was working towards bringing permanent peace to the area to enable them return to their homes.

He said, “It has come to the attention of Ebonyi State Government the activities of some hoodlums who are taking advantage of the crisis in Effium to loot property of those who fled their homes as a result of the crisis

“To this end, the state Deputy Governor, His Excellency Barr Eric Kelechi Igwe PhD, has directed security agencies to intensify efforts and patrol the nooks and crannies of the community to ensure protection of property in Effium as government is working towards bringing permanent peace to the area to enable them return to their homes.

“Government warns that anybody caught vandalising or looting property in any part of Effium will be apprehended and treated as a common criminal.

“Security agents are directed to ensure that nobody moves any property out of Effium without clearance from police. Please treat as important.”
