THE Senate, on Tuesday, confirmed the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai; ex-Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin; former Chief of Air Staff, Ibok Ibas; and former Chief of Naval Staff, Abubakar Sadique, as non-career ambassadors.
President Buhari had sent the names of the immediate past service chiefs to the Senate on February 5, 2021, for confirmation as non-career ambassadors.
Nigerians at home and abroad had called on the Senate to reject the nominations.
Those who held this position noted that it was a plot by the Presidency to shield the former service chiefs from prosecution by the International Criminal Court for alleged gross human rights abuses under their watch.
